UPDATE — John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon officials announced the 2020 race will benefit financially off the film “The Great Alaskan Race.”
According to race officials, the partnership means the Beargrease event will get a portion of the proceeds from the movie created by P12 Films
The movie will bring attention to the history of sled dog mushing, as well as the importance of its role in places such as northern Minnesota and Alaska, which have relied on this mode of transportation for years.
“What we were excited about is we both said welcome to our families. P-12 films is a family organization, the Beargrease is a family organization and people have been around for 36 years, so we’re excited about that partnership,” said Monica Hendrickson, spokesperson for the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon.
The film will debut in theaters across the country on October 25, 2019.
A private screening of the film will take place in Duluth, but we have no further details on that screening as of this time.
